Looking for an atypical weekend in Switzerland?

If yes, you are in the right place. From my first memories of travelling, it has always meant one thing to me: atypical. We all know that despite being a regular tourist, we all, at some point, want to think that the atypical is still to be discovered and we will be just the people to do so before anyone else. The adventure, the urge for discovering the unknown and not yet seen are about to unfold before our eyes only. Well, let me tell you it is still possible! At least partially. In order to do so though, we need to look for the less-known and sometimes less-comfortable paths. Living in the land of luxury and cows, we have thought about combining both approaches to travel to a perfect weekend getaway in Switzerland. Therefore we have prepared for you a cute mix of both in order to meet the desires of all kind of travellers, where sometimes the bathroom isn’t within reach, but the views will compensate for everything you are lacking!

Number 1 on the list is The Mayen. As described by the owner himself “The Mayen is the cosy place to be…a former barn-stable which has been transformed in a modern way of living with all necessary commodities, a real little Paradis in Valais”. This wooden Mayen originally from 1890s has been transformed into a contemporary living space with kitchen and a dining room and a stunning view near by the Dent Blanche peak.

What can you do there? As we read in the description of the space we are indeed invited to do a lot:

“Let’s have a rest or read … with a fireplace and large glass window
Let’s go for a walk, with snowshoes or go cross-country skiing …
Let’s relax in the massage shower admiring the sky…
Let’s ski in the heart of the Swiss Alps …”

Number 2 on the list is The larch-panelled Bijou located on the outskirts of Trin. First of all, the wooden interior of this hut looks so cosy and welcoming that all we can think of is to stay in and pretend we are the owners of this paradise home. And the black bathroom! This is a small space that helps the relaxing weekend with your beloved ones be the dream time you had in mind on your way here. The guests complemented the views and the beauty of the Swiss nature nearby – of course ! Seems like an authentic, but contemporary take on a Swiss chalet. Ok, let’s go !

Our third choice goes to The Cute Caravan with stunning views; again. First of all, if you are dreaming of glamping, this might be the first step to take. Perhaps it isn’t sunny California yet, but this cute little red caravan house might be your Swiss life weekend dream come true. Just have a look inside, it couldn’t be more Swiss with the red and white decor. The lack of a traditional bathroom shouldn’t scare you as you will wake up to the open vistas on the Swiss Alps and a hot cup of coffee ready on your caravan table. Time to explore !

Ok we are now going to be a little crazy. Here come number 4 The Ferme Lacoue. Leave your comfort zone far behind and bring your best sleeping bag with you as you will need it. This farm offers a sleeping place in an original and healthy way- straight on the hay, or rather straw beds – 100% bio and comfortable. Did I hear anybody say “going back to the root”s? Located just at a 10-min walk from Asphalt Mines and near the Creux du Van, it is the perfect place to do some hiking in the area. But before that you will get some breakfast that consist of organic regional products ! Bon appetite !
