Since you have seen Foret Bleueu products in our reviews and articles, we believed it was high time to find out more about the brand and the person behind it. Meet Emmanuelle, the mind behind these awesome products!
Les Toiles Studio: Hello Emmanuelle, for the readers that still do not know about Forêt Bleue – can you please tell us what Forêt Bleue is and how did you develop the passion for what you do now?
Emmanuelle: Hi there Les Toiles! Forêt Bleue is a natural and responsible cosmetics brand, all handmade in Geneva. Forêt Bleue range includes hygiene products such as soaps, shampoos and deodorant, as well as skincare products such as scrubs, oils and masks. In my formulations I prefer organic, eco-responsible and raw materials. All of my products are devoid of mineral oils, synthetic texture agents and preservatives.
I was immersed in the world of cosmetics since childhood: my mother was a beautician and I have many memories from being in her institute, which was located just below our apartment. As I grew up I became interested in environmental issues and ecology. I started to make cosmetics a few years ago, first just for my own needs. What was initially a hobby, quickly became a big passion, and I wanted to become a professional cosmetic maker in the field, and that’s how Forêt Bleue was born.
Les Toiles Studio: Many of your products are responsibly sourced and bio products. Can you tell us more about this part of your work? How do you make sure the ingredients you are using are coming from the right sources?
Emmanuelle: It is really important for me to make sure that the quality of my raw materials is high, as well as their origin is clear for all my customers. To do this, I researched the market a lot, and I have developed a trusting relationship with my suppliers.
Les Toiles Studio: As a young cosmetics business in Switzerland I am sure you are facing a lot of challenges as well as many highs. Can you tell us what are the pros and cons of running your own cosmetics business?
Emmanuelle: What I like most about being independent is to be able to develop a project that totally corresponds with my own values. I feel in tune with who I am and what I do. This freedom allows me to forget about the more difficult aspects of entrepreneurship: the fact of having to wear a multitude of different hats, administrative work, instability, etc.
Les Toiles Studio: We all care (some more, some less) of what we use to apply on our skin and hair. We know that some products are using extremely harmful ingredients both for your body as much as for the environment. Can you share with us some advice on what ingredients we should avoid when buying cosmetics?
Emmanuelle: Although it may seem complicated at first, I advise those who are concerned about the products they use to make a habit of reading ingredient on products labels and to learn how to decrypt them. By doing this exercise, it quickly becomes very easy to identify the ingredients that you want to avoid according to your own values and priorities.
As far as I’m concerned, if I still bought cosmetic products from other brands, I would avoid products containing Mineral oils, silicones, EDTA, polyethylene, of BHT / BHA, parabens, phthalates, formaldehyde, methylisothiazolinone, sodium laureth / lauryl sulfates or phenoxyethanol. I would also avoid allergens.
Les Toiles Studio: Coming back to Forêt Bleue, can you please share with us your number one product recommendation for the fall and coming winter season? Anything new that is coming to Forêt Bleue in upcoming months?
Emmanuelle: My recommendation would be to try my solid deodorant! I realize that this type of product may seem scary at first, but people who take the risk are usually quickly hooked and no longer return to conventional deodorants.
I work constantly on creating new formulas, it’s the part of my job that I enjoy the most. In particular, I plan to expand my facial care line in the nearest future, so stay tuned for updates!
