Best Places for Sweet Tooth People in Lausanne

Sweet tooth or not, we all crave for some sweetness every now and then and when we want to splurge ourselves it must be good, right? Because it’s not every day that we are not counting calories! I do believe that Lausanne is still missing a really good dessert bar, very trendy and with a large option of indulgent cakes and sweet tarts – hope some investor out there is listening – but fear not, we have some nice options out there.

Thinking about all the sweet lovers out there and also about the ones that like me, need a sweet shot sometimes we came up with a list of our favourite places to have an amazing sweet bite and forget about the world. Yes, you can, after all, food was meant to be eaten and enjoyed, with moderation all is good and sometimes to exaggerate can be good too!

So here goes in no particular order:

Cuppins I love some cake. Nothing beats a cake for me… And Cuppins has some nice options and is often including something new – many cupcake places have opened in town, but this is still my favourite – flavour-wise. They also have a delicious Chai and two sizes of cupcakes that may help you when in doubt or when you want to try different flavours. The downside, is the cute but too romantic atmosphere and also the lack of seats in the house, best take to go.

Lucien Moutalier French/Swiss pastry at its best. Recently voted as the best croissant by The Lausanne Guide. For me, they have also delicious pastries, especially if you like éclairs, chous and all that. Hmmm, can we go now? The downside, the exterior is cooler than the interior.

Romain C The most “Instagramble” tearoom in town and it’s also very delicious and tasty. A bit fancy, but not in a bad way. So many options, all of them amazing. Prices are salty, but the sweeties will make you get over them. The downside, it’s not downtown and it closes a bit too early.

Le Pointu This is not a dessert place per say, but during the week they serve a killer chocolate cake that suddenly carries you to another place, an amazing one by the way – and they also have really good coffee. It’s bliss, chocolate heaven, plaster, moist, heavy and delicious. The downside, the piece is quite small and the price quite big.

Mauro’s Traiteur If like me, you like Italian desserts, go for it! It’s delicious… Canoli, Tiramisu, Chocolate Tart hmmm… Price is good, taste is good, everything is good, you just have to enjoy it somewhere-else as Mauro’s not a place to stay, but to grab and go.

EXTRA- For health and delicious option try the delicious & fluffy “Le Smart Cake” available at many selling points hence Confisserie Etoile Blanche & Sleepy Bear – it’s made in Pully, so totally local – and a proof that you can eat healthily and keep the taste. Try the carrot and chocolate one, my favourite!

Another great tip is to buy a Tart à la Crème from the market at Riponne (Saturdays) it’s heavenly!

Of course, there are other options too… There’s a place I like to go just to have Salted Caramel éclair, there’s also Ladurée in town and so on, but trust me, la crème de la crème is above, and if needed we will update, for sure!

Give us your take and your favourites.
